Designing a new bulletin for our church was not merely a design task. It was not merely about aesthetics and functionality. But more importantly, it was an opportunity to think and learn about God’s heart for this church.
We came up with a design called “VIBRANT CONNECTIONS”. We have multi-coloured triangles closely connecting one to another to form one larger piece that stands out from the monochromatic background, and goes beyond the edge of the page.
Symbols and Visual Metaphors
The triangles symbolize our common faith in the Triune God. God, who exists in three persons, is the One who connects us and keeps us together. The multiple colours represent diversity. We come from all walks of life, our individual uniqueness and differences are making this church amazingly colourful. The bright and vibrant colours depict the abundant lives we have in Christ. What happens when a bunch of “abundant lives” come together as one? It becomes a dynamic force and an influence in our community, in our city and in the world. This is why we called this design “VIBRANT CONNECTIONS”.
Typeface
All the text on the bulletin, including the words CALVARY LOGOS BAPTIST CHURCH, is set in a typeface named UBUNTU. This typeface was chosen because of its simplicity, its readability, its contemporary touch, and its style suits the design very well. But above all, God has an awesome reason for this choice. The word “UBUNTU” actually means “a philosophical doctrine or approach to life that emphasizes social unity and generosity of spirit.” So, the look of this typeface matches our design, and even the name of the typeface aligns perfectly with our design concept. Isn’t God amazing?
We hope this new bulletin will serve as a constant reminder of who we are in Christ and our purpose in His kingdom.
